DESCRIPTION:In April 2024, the Department of Justice published a rule upda
ting its regulations for Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (
ADA). The rule sets technical requirements for state and local governments
and their entities, including libraries, to follow to make sure that thei
r websites, mobile apps, and social media are accessible to people with di
sabilities. This training will provide an overview of these new requiremen
ts, and their effective date, address how people with disabilities interac
t with the virtual environment, and offer starting tips on how to meet the
regulation requirements on websites, social media, and other forms of ele
ctronic communication. Our presenter, Joe Zesski is the Program Manager o
f the Northeast ADA Center and has served as the New Jersey affiliate of t
he Northeast ADA through Resources for Independent Living since 2009. Mr.
Zesski's focus has been on assistive technology, accessible web desig
n, the educational rights of students with disabilities, and the full incl
usion of people with disabilities in the community. Joe served for fourtee
n years as Chair of Burlington County New Jersey’s Disability Issues Com
mittee and currently serves on the New York State’s Hearing Loss Associa
tions Professional Advisory Committee and the New Jersey State Rehabilitat
ion Council. As an individual who is blind, Joe believes that his persona
l experience of disability informs his professional work. Part of the
ADA Title II Compliance series.
