Often the first places immigrants who have recently arrived, seek out the Public Library. Libraries offer the services that these newcomers often need to survive and thrive, from language learning to citizenship help. With talk of sanctuary cities and increased enforcement focus on immigration status, public libraries may need to provide their patrons with information to help them understand what their rights are here in the US, and how they should and shouldn’t interact with government representatives, from local law enforcement to ICE agents.
