Professional Development 1.5 Hours

In April 2024, the Department of Justice published a rule updating its regulations for Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The rule sets technical requirements for state and local governments and their entities, including libraries, to follow to make sure that their websites, mobile apps, and social media are accessible to people with disabilities. This training will provide an overview of these new requirements, and their effective date, address how people with disabilities interact with the virtual environment, and offer starting tips on how to meet the regulation requirements on websites, social media, and other forms of electronic communication.

Our presenter, Joe Zesski is the Program Manager of the Northeast ADA Center and has served as the New Jersey affiliate of the Northeast ADA through Resources for Independent Living since 2009. Mr. Zesski's focus has been on assistive technology, accessible web design, the educational rights of students with disabilities, and the full inclusion of people with disabilities in the community. Joe served for fourteen years as Chair of Burlington County New Jersey’s Disability Issues Committee and currently serves on the New York State’s Hearing Loss Associations Professional Advisory Committee and the New Jersey State Rehabilitation Council. As an individual who is blind, Joe believes that his personal experience of disability informs his professional work.
