As we continue to move forward through the challenges of living through and beyond a pandemic, we are working to help our co-workers and patrons deal with the devastation of the coronavirus, continued unemployment and the sometimes overwhelming impact of daily life. Library staff can play a vital role in addressing the negative impact of what is happening in each community.

SCLS Outreach Services has invited Tom Fealey, NRP, Deputy Chief of Operations for the Suffolk County EMS Division, to provide an online Narcan training for library administration and staff.

This virtual training is designed for non-traditional responders and meets New York State Department of Health requirements that include recognition of an opioid overdose, administration of intranasal Narcan and steps to take until EMS arrives. The goal of the class is to shorten the critical time period between discovery of an opioid overdose and administration of Narcan, a life saving antidote.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion/authorization card and an emergency resuscitation kit that includes Narcan, at no cost. This is the same training that we have provided in-person, in the past.

Please Note: This Date is subject to change, as the healthcare workers who will be providing this training are working on many projects and issues related to COVID-19. We appreciate your understanding for any last minute changes to the Narcan training schedule.
