Event Details
As you may recall, the Stony Brook Healthy Libraries Program and the Program in Public Health shared a Mental Health Needs Assessment Survey with member libraries in fall 2025.
The Mental Health and Libraries survey was available to library administration and staff from October to December 2025.
The sur vey was created, conducted and analyzed by Cathryn Carmona. Cathryn is an MSW/MPH student at Stony Brook University. Cathryn worked with Dr. Lisa Benzscott to analyze the data and will be sharing the results of the survey and her work, with us on Tuesday, May 5th at 2:00pm.
In this virtual presentation Cathryn will explain how the survey was implemented and analyzed, and discuss the following themes that were focused on in the survey.
- frequency of mental health disturbances
- comfortability handling a mental health disturbance
- If a written library protocol or mental health training aided in assisting patrons experiencing a mental health disturbance
Finally, Cathryn will have future recommendations and share information and resources that will enable libraries to address the findings in the survey.
Of course, no names or library locations will be identified in this presentation/research.
