Program Description
Event Details
The annual SCLS Mock Newbery Discussion and Vote provides the opportunity to examine and evaluate some of the many titles eligible for the 2020 Newbery Medal. Read the Newbery criteria carefully as well as the discussion suggestions (which can be found at this link) and apply them to your personal study and evaluation of the nominated books. Please come prepared to make thoughtful contributions to the discussion of each title. We will start the meeting with a brief look at the Newbery Medal and the specific criteria that surrounds the award, followed by introductions.
Want to champion one of our titles and introduce it to the group? Email Darla (darla@suffolknet.org) with the titles you’re interested in introducing! Introductions should provide a very brief synopsis of the plot and an overview of the title’s merits through the lens of the Newbery criteria. Introductions are short, sweet and fun, no longer than 3-4 minutes each, so don’t be afraid! Titles will be assigned first come, first served.
This event was accidentally deleted in October. If you were already registered before the titles were announced, you should register again. I apologize for the inconvenience!
