Vendor Demo: OCLC MuseumKey and LendingKey

The demo will go over both MuseumKey and LendingKey, OCLC’S reservation platform for both Museum Passes and LoT items (“Library of Things”) that allows patrons to reserve those items in advance for the specific date needed.  

For museum passes, year after year library staff does not need to input museum addresses, museum closings, special hours, etc. as all of this is handled on OCLC's end. We do however allow staff full control over each museum's information that allows staff to make edits if they choose to. Printable passes are also an option depending on the museum (we auto-generate the required type of barcode on a mobile friendly pass or printable pass for patrons). 

Patrons can also login to the “Key Platform” anytime for account maintenance, to reprint their passes, or to cancel their physical pass or LoT item pickup, all on their own, virtually.

• MuseumKey and LendingKey can block reservations based on P-type, fines owed, or expired accounts.
• MuseumKey passes and LendingKey LoT items can be cataloged as normal circulating items (optional ILS Circulation add-on layer). All loan rules are managed by the ILS.  The “Key platform” only sends a check in/out command in accord with the limits established in the ILS.
  • ILS integration includes:
    • Authentication
    • Circulation.  Passes checked in/out of MusuemKey will be marked in/out in the ILS.  When a new item barcode is added into the system, the ILS will be checked to see if the item exists.
