The annual SCLS Mock Newbery Discussion and Vote provides the opportunity to examine and evaluate some of the many titles eligible for the 2021 Newbery Medal. Despite the challenges presented by this year and the unknown of the coming months, we will be holding our Mock Newbery Workshop! As SCLS-YS works to determine the best format for this year’s discussion, keep an eye out for updates that may include small changes to the time, likely no more than plus or minus 30 minutes in either direction.
The criteria for the Newbery Medal, downloadable below, will provide the framework for our discussion. Read the criteria carefully as well as the discussion suggestions, and apply them to your personal study and evaluation of the nominated books. Please come prepared to make thoughtful contributions to the discussion of each title. We will start the meeting with a brief look at the Newbery Medal and the specific criteria that surrounds the award.
